Fiji Night

Fiji Night is a theme night dedicated to the culture and people of this mystical tropical paradise!

Sit back and relax as you are invited to spend an evening with

friends. The Fiji fun starts during the day as Guests are invited to

help weave baskets from coconut fronds to prepare for the Experience the real Fiji at Paradise Taveuni

lovo (Fiji underground oven). The baskets are used to hold

the food when it is placed into the lovo. The lovo is lined with

hot rocks, the baskets of food are placed on top of the rocks

and then covered with large green leaves. The food is

steamed and smoked for approximatly 2 hours. Cooking in

this traditional methods of Fiji is healthy and nutritious as the

meats and vegetables are cooked in their own juices.

Begin your evening with a traditional Fiji Lovo Feast. 

The 4 course dinner includes meats, fish and local vegetables prepared Fijian style and followed by a tropical dessert.

During dinner enjoy the entertainment provided by the Paradise Cultural Group as they perform a Meke (traditional Fijian Dancing). You are invited to take photos and join in the dancing celebrations.

Guests are then join the villagers and staff for a Yaqona (Kava) Ceremony complete with storytelling, dancing and serenading.

This weekly event is a true Fijian experience not to be missed!

Guided Culture Walk

Coconut plantations surrounding Paradise Taveuni

Set off with our local guide for an educational & leisurely walking tour of

the local area. The 2 hour culturetourr visits a village ruins, a deserted cemetery, the nearby black sand beach & the southern reservoir. Learn about the people of this beautiful island along the way.

The 4 hour walk to the south of the Resort includes a tour of Vuna,

the local village with Masi (Tapa) production and mat weaving. Visit

the local Niu coconut oil factory. Wander through the endless coconut trees within nearby the Vatuwiri Plantation.

Your Paradise guide will point out features of interest including vegetation and its traditional uses. Complimentary activity for 2 - 4 hours.

Snake ShowSnake show in Paradise

Join 'snake man' Maikeli for a good look at the Paradise pets.

The Boa Constrictors are native to Taveuni and you will find them curled

up enjoying the warm tropical heat in cages around the Resort.

Maikeli places the reptiles on the resort lawns for you to get a closer look at.

Touch their cool scales and get your picture taken.

Village girls perform a meke for your enjoyment

Learn To Meke

Learn how to dance like the southern Taveuni Fijian girls. The local village girls will show you how with a demonstration on the moves and meanings of the dance. Dancing since they were old enough to walk, the village girls will teach you a thing or two. Complimentary activity is 20 minutes.

 

Fiji Church ServiceSunday church service

A trip to the local church located in Vuna Village is a treat of a

cultural tour! The Catholic service is performed in the

language of the Fiji islands.

The local villagers who are normally very religious, sing like the

angels and will welcome you into their church. Complimentary

activity is 1-2 hours each Sunday morning.

One of the icons on Taveuni, the Holy Cross church, pictured here, is located a 30 minute drive north from Paradise. A Catholic service is

held twice on sunday mornings. A return taxi trip of $50 will get you to the service.

The Paradise staff will lead you to the snorkeling ladder and introduce

you to the tropical fish that reside in the warm Paradise waters. Bread is tossed into the water and watch the scramble of fish of many colours and types.

Jump in and snorkel while the fish are being fed for a real treat!

Sulu Tying Demonstration

Let the girls of the nearby Fiji village show you the many intricate ways to tie the colourful Fiji sulu (sarong, sari). Complimentary activity for 20 minutes.
