Oct 21st, 2009

Fiji Night in Paradise is a great experience!

Start with a day full of Fijian cultural activities - frond weaving, sulu tying, lovo preparation, coconut lesson… and more. Add Cocktails at sunset followed by a 4 course Lovo Feast with Guests dining together. Follow dinner with a meke (dance performance) and then you are invited to a kava ceremony with the Resort staff, friends and family.

Jessica doing the Meke with the village girls

5 year old Jessica Gortan has just joined our Village girls doing the meke for their 2 numbers. Jess practices daily with her Nanny and is trying hard to keep up with the bigger girls. “I love doing the meke on Fiji night” Jessica says. “I get to stay up late and dance for the Resort Guests. It’s fun”.

Jessica is in the process of convincing her 4 year old brother Thomas to join the boys meke group. We’ll keep you posted on this!

Come to Paradise to experience ‘real Fiji‘.

Welcome to Fiji Night! This weekly event is definately a highlight of a stay in Paradise.

Spend the afternoon with the staff learning the secrets and skills of preparing and cooking in the lovo – the traditional Fijian earth oven.

Sulus and bula shirts are essential evening-wear. Enjoy the fantastic lovo feast before settling down for the evening’s entertainment – the meke dancing, performed by the beautiful local boys and girls.

Finally all our guests and staff are welcomed around the kava bowl to share stories and a few bowls of kava. Make sure you have your dancing shoes on too – the seranaders will soon have you on your feet with their infectious tunes!
